Hamilton’s Race for Hamilton’s Hospital: St. Joe’s

Race Overview:

The Around the Bay Road Race is the oldest road race in North America, older than the Boston Marathon. It was first run in 1894 and is one of Canada’s premier running events steeped in history and tradition. The race has grown over the years to include a 5K, 2x15K relay and a 3x10K relay to complement its signature event, the 30K.

The 30K (18.6 miles) is a unique distance as it is more than a half marathon but less than a full marathon, making the Around the Bay Road Race a perfect event to keep winter training on track and prepare runners for future races of all distances.

Race with Purpose: Help Fund Life-Saving Equipment Needs at St. Joe’s

The Around the Bay Road Race isn’t just a run. It’s Hamilton’s race for Hamilton’s hospital: St. Joe’s. Both organizations share a long and proud history in our city and since 2005, Bay Race participants have walked, run and raised more than $5.4 million to support health research and patient care at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.

This year, when you make a donation at the time of registration, or raise funds during your Bay Race participation, you’ll be supporting urgent equipment needs at St. Joe’s. This might surprise you, but essential items like ultrasound machines, vital sign monitors, and wheelchairs aren’t funded by the provincial operating dollars hospitals receive. Nearly every piece of equipment used at St. Joe’s is funded through donations from people like you, and funds raised through events like the Bay Race.

Your pledges will help ensure St. Joe’s has the tools and the technology they need to care for you and your loved ones, no matter what brings you to the Hospital’s doors.
