Race Overview:

The Around the Bay Road Race is the oldest road race in North America, older than the Boston Marathon. It was first run in 1894 and is one of Canada’s premier running events steeped in history and tradition. The race has grown over the years to include a 5K, 2x15K relay and a 3x10K relay to complement its signature event, the 30K.

The 30K (18.6 miles) is a unique distance as it is more than a half marathon but less than a full marathon, making the Around the Bay Road Race a perfect event to keep winter training on track and prepare runners for future races of all distances.

The Bay Race, as it is commonly referred to, will celebrate its 125th anniversary on Sunday, March 31, 2019. For complete details on the Around the Bay Road Race, please visit our website at

New in 2019 — Expanded Charity Partner Program:

The Bay Race will be accepting applications from charities that would like to leverage the Bay Race as a fundraising event and opportunity for their cause.

For the past 14 years, the Bay Race had only one local charity partner—St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation. In that time, St. Joe’s has raised over $3.5 million to support patient care and research at the Hospital. While St. Joe’s will continue to be a charitable partner in the race, the Bay Race would like to provide other worthy causes the chance to raise funds through this historic event. To commemorate the 125th anniversary of the race, 25 charities will be selected as charitable partners in 2019.

Once accepted, the charity can invite its supporters to participate in the race and raise pledges for their charity. All charity partners will have access to a state-of-the-art online fundraising platform: a user-friendly system with electronic tax receipting functionality. Please note a separate contract must be signed between the charitable partner and HTG, the online fundraising platform provider.
